Abstract

This study examines the life and work of Juan De Salas. This was a Jesuit and contem-porary of the Dominican Francisco de Vitoria and the Jesuit Francisco Suarez. Juan de Salas was an ardent defender of the scholastic doctrine of St. Thomas Aquinas, and throughout his life he had disagreements with the Inquisition for some of his publica-tions. Perhaps the main difference between the position of Salas and Suarez is the pro-spect of his study: whereas Salas was focus upon legal matters, Suarez was more con-cerned with theological issues, particularly with the human and divine law, as well as its relation.
