This paper discusses Josep Finestres y de Monsalvo’s humanist exegesis of Roman law, an aspect of his thought that has not been explored. Finestres’s exegesis reflects the most important methodological controversies of the eighteenth century and constitutes a clear example of the legal humanism as expounder at the University of Cervera.
