The Apparatus of Glosses to the Siete Partidas by Gregorio López de Valenzuela

Abstract

This articles deals with the biography of Gregorio López de Valenzuela (1490-1560), as well as with his studies and professional positions. Among his works, two are outstanding: The Edición y aparato de glosas a las Siete Partidas, and the Ordenanzas reales para la Casa de la Contratación de Sevilla y para otras casas de las Indias y de la navegación y contratación de ellas. The article analyzes the Aparato de glosas a las Siete Partidas, particularly the most extensive glosses about different matters, the systematic followed by the author in his commentaries, the works which inspired the argumentation, and the influence which this work exerted on other lawyers.
